The Isles of Venezia

The Last day in Venice went out with a bang. We started to day off on t he Grand Canal. We bought a day pass that allowed us to do the water boat tour going through the whole of th grand canal, and also allowed us to bounce around through the other islands that make up the whole of Venice. It was great to see the places that we have walked around and seen for so many days. It was definitely a great way to see the city.

Moving away from the mainland of Venice it was interesting to see how all the boats move around, how many there are and how they somehow have a street system unspoken into the water.

We made it to the first of the two islands that we were going to stop at Lido. We found the beach!! We also found the surprisingly warm Adriatic Sea. We walked around it for a little while. It was so warm!! It was very surprising that it was that warm. They also have paddle boats that have slides coming off them which we thought was great, would be real fun.

Tons of people were outing and abouting at the beach. Built mostly old and young. Almost as though it was a retired place that was mostly families that were looking after grandkids or had family out for a bit.

We realized that we have been to many seas on this trip. Although it is really hard to tell one from the other when all is said and done we will have been to 7 seas in total. The Adriatic here in Venice, the North Sea when we were in Holland, the Bay of Biscay in San Sebastián. The Atalantic when in IReland, the English Chanel which I think is the same but not sure about it. Balearic sea in Valencia and Barcelona. We will make our way to the Tyrrhenian Sea when we are in Rome and Naples, and end up at the Mediterranean Sea in Greece. Many many seas, many many memories.

Lido was great, found streets and cars again, which is weird how it can seem so weird a sight after 5 days of not seeing any. We also saw a swordfish on ice. Seems like it would be a great place to come back to. Especially if you have time to sit on the beach a while.

From Lido we took a boat over to Murano. It is the glass blowing island. Back in the day Murano was a secluded island that only glass blowers lived on to protect the secrets of glass blowing. Was a pretty neat place.

It was another great day, as they all are, walking around and enjoying the sun. We came back and enjoyed a delicious meal at a local restaurant. I had a clam pasta, 25 clams!!that is a record, I don't think I have ever had a pasta that had that many clams in it. It was a delicious meal. Luke had a swordfish pasta that he enjoyed. We paired this with a pro secco wine and called it a night.

Was a great way to end our time in Venice. We have a crazy early and long day tomorrow travelling over to Cinque Terre. We only have 2 hours to check in to our hotel and it takes a little over 6 hours to get there. All the high speed trains were full, so we have a long day ahead. Loved Venice and have enjoyed every moment of the unique city. Crazy that we are already moving to the opposite coast.

And so the adventure continues...
