The Alps . . . Rainy Style

We are officially sick of the rain. It is really annoying and cold and wet and frustrating. It is certainly putting a damper on our days. We try to not let it get in the way but it does. The day started off beautifully. Cold but decent. But stills lots of cloud coverage. Going up any mountain isn't a cheap thing so we decided and a cheaper one and decided to make the best of what we were given. Keeping in the back of our minds that we may not see anything.

We definitely didn't see much, but the day was great. We took a clog train up a mountain, this was a view of the views we could see under the clouds before we got to high. Interlaken and surrounding little towns. A neat train up that gradually got thicker into cloud, and rainy.

When we got to the top we decided that we would do I hike up to the top of the mountain we were on. The rain on the rocks and dirt made the muddy, slippery hike a little more challenging. The clouds on the other hand made it much more eyrie then was necessary. The views unfortunately didn't come around but we had a great creepy hike up the mountain. And it was very creepy and eyrie as the side of the cliff drew nearer and nearer, with one wrong slip BAM! But it was very cool, and a good hike despite the scariness and the rain.

At the top of Schynige Platte mountain we enjoyed the peace and quiet over a cider together while sitting on a rock in the rain. It really was a great afternoon. The hike was rewarding, despite the view not being all there, and the hike was great. Made it to the top of the Danube peak at 2075 m above. Was a great day!

Here are some more pictures of the journey, including making it back down to the bottom where a picture fram and cow bells awaited. What made it even creepier was that you could see the ugliness of some of the trees and mountains that you normally would be able to see. It really would be a great from the top overlooking the mountains behind and the valley the opposite direction. We really enjoyed ourselves and made the best a cold dreary day. Not the epic day that was originally planned, but a great day nonetheless.

Along the way we saw a number of salamanders. Funny creatures that don't move. The first one we saw we didn't know if it was real or fake cause it didn't move, even threw a few oaks to spook it and it wasn't budging. Funny little guys that wasn't wanting to move at all. We could co-existe they aren't as weird as they look.

We made it back to the train with enough time to relax before hopping on the last one down. The rain didn't stop us but it made a different day, but still very great day.

We ended the evening off by stopping at the store on the way home and grabbed some food and set up a lovely dinner back at the ranch, and enjoyed what was left of the evening in. Safe from the rain, and warmed up from the day.

All in all we had an awesome day and enjoyed ourselves. One more day in Switzerland and by tomorrow night we will be Italy bound.

And so the adventure continues...
