Lucky Luke in Lucerne

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUKEY!!! Today for Luke's birthday DAY we had did a ton. We spent majority of the day in Lucerne. Not far from where we had been staying. Such a great place! A small big city. Yes small big. It is hard to describe it any other way. A unique interesting little place. What is crazy about going to so many places in Europe is how the cities change. History, from far history to more recent history. Germany was wiped out that the buildings were really no more then 60 years old. Lucerne is very, very old. It's history dates back into the 1400's and 1500's. Lucerne is old, not many other places have the type of history like that.

The city has a canal or river running through it, and into the lake. Lake Lucerne. A similar situation to the Shuswap in the sense that it has many legs named different things and they are all very large. It is also on many different hills. This makes walking fun because it is a mix of emotions. Especially in the heat. But you get great views no matter where you are in the city.

There are many sights that you can see in Lucerne and it is a big hub that you can go and do many excursions and see many sights from Lucerne. Only downside that Switzerland has is how expensive it is. Had the most expensive Starbucks of my entire life today. Yes, it was refreshing, but I wouldn't say worth it, but it is all around an expensive country.

We saw a number of odd things today on our journey. Including a silly swan sitting upside down finding food or something. Also saw one poop, and it was disgusting. Think of seeing a fart happen in water. It is what you are picturing yes, and it is weird and silly. We share a Coke Zero that was made inSwitzerland  as well, which is pretty cool. There are of course many things that we see along the way and they can't all be documented or remembered until talked about.

One of the coolest parts is that we walked along one of the city walls of fortification. It is very cool, 4 of the 9 towers you can go in, and you can get amazing views from the top. Plus you can walk the on the wall, which is a little intimidating and neat all at once. There is watch towers and clock tower. The cock tower rings a minute sooner then the other clocks in town. They all he very steep steps, going up and down.

The clock tower is particularly neat because the clock runs on a pendulum and a nifty little system that is very old. Luke figured this out, and let me in on how it works. Pretty cool, I must say. But the specific words that he used I wouldn't be able to remember, or repeat and wouldn't explain it properly. But it was very neat. We were a few towers over when the bell rang in the tower, but it would be loud if you were in the tower.

Like I said, the view from the top on the wall was amazing. Pictures of course will never do it justice, it was breathtaking. Mountains, upon hills, upon lakes, upon buildings. It is really beautiful.  Plus, we lucked out with another great sunny day!

One of the main attractions in Lucerne is the Lion Monument that is carved in the side of the mountain. It is pretty incredible, also has intricate details that are carved into it. A sight that brings in many tourists buses. Also a very odd toilet system thing, tune into Instagram for an update on Luke's end.

As we were walking from the lion monument, we noticed some people falling from the sky. So we made our way toward the water to see what was going on. When we were walking around, the seen to be in countries and in teams. Pretty sure that the reason they were falling from the sky is that there was some sort of competition for how they were landing. On the mat there was a certain black area that they were getting scored on reaching. There were a ton that took turns landing very quickly. Then before you know it after a country is done and the sky is clear, there is another 7 people in the sky waiting their turn. At one point they were doing flips.

We walked most of the city, and did a great overall view of Lucerne. We saw a lot and had a really great day. BIRTHDAY was well done. Lucky Luke, last year spending his birthday in Maui, and this year spending it in Switzerland. Birthdays to remember.

From Lucerne we headed to Interlaken. WOW! The train ride is absolutely incredible. Going past a the most beautiful coloured lake. Emerald almost, the perfect mix of blue and green, it is truly an incredible colour. Plus, we went up the mountain. The trains inclined actually quite a bit, almost like a roller coaster. It was pretty crazy. Switzerland has many farms up in and on the mountain which is very neat.

We made it to home. Surrounded by mountains, and it is beautiful. We are staying just further into the valley up from Interlaken, about 5 minutes away in Wilderswil. A neat little place, where the cats roam wild. Here we enjoyed a birthday dinner!! Lukey had cheese fondue, a Switzerland must, don't worry mom H he said yours was better! ;) I had a potatoe pancake that was yummy.

After we walked around Wilderswil for a little bit and then headed back. A quaint place that is very very old. Wow, as I read this I realize there is so much to say. But the images can't be painted with words. It really was a great day. Yet another full day but a great one in Switzerland, celebrating Luke. My amazing husband who is so good to me, and an amazing guy. So glad that we have got to celebrate his birthday for two years making incredible memories and being together! We have many memories ahead of us, especially the rest of the summer and the many years to come. YAHOO!! No longer robbing the cradle.

We have a full weekend ahead of us. That I am excited for. Two more birthday days ahead of us. Yea we are extending it to make up for a a few slow days, also cause he's worth it and it will be an epic few days.

Oh AND HAPPY CANADA DAY!

And so the adventure continues...
