Okay so a rocky beach day. The only actual sandy beach we will find here is in the last land. We will definitely go to it but staying the day in it we shall see. But gotta say seeing the snow there is in Calgary, I am glad I am in the sunny hot weather I am in. Even though I can remember the last time in snowed July, hopefully you are all enjoying the crazy Calgary weather.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the restaurant below our apartment and made friends with our waiter. He is such a nice guy, remembering us even when I came back to order take away dinner, giving suggestions and greeting me when it was ready.
After lunch we packed up and got ready for the sun. This is actually a long process. Snacks, waters, sun screen, towels, bathing suits, I'm not totally convinced all these things are necessecary but I guess they are worth it. We enjoyed a beautiful day. Okay I must admit it eventually got very cloudy, and we couldn't swim due to the monsterous waves, but watching people get washed by the waves was hilarious. That isn't the way to describe it but I, not sure what would really be the right way. Even though we were there in the afternoon, the tide was certainly do I in. This made the entertainment more enjoyable, until we almost got nailed by a wave ourselves. Then it became a little more serious, and the fun was over. The sun showers were welcome as we were quite hot sitting on the rocky shore.
I honestly love the waves. Watching them crash against the Rock and the shore are so enjoyable to me. They have an eyrie ness to them but I have such a smile on my face watching the wave chatter into a thousand little droplets after it crashes into the rocks. I took so many pictures of this. Also just laying on the beach listening to the waves crash against the shore, the sound cannot be duplicated. I totally went over board. The bottom right picture here says it all. I love this picture. I am totally jazzed, wand Luke is standing there honking yea, that's my wife. Hehe, luckily he loves me and all my quirks!! Even my overly childish excitement for extraordinary waves!
The path to get to the beach is around a part of the mountain also in the rocks. It was getting hit hard by waves periodically. So planning your walk across it had to be slightly strategic. This was also hilarious as after we crossed, still completely dry, we stopped to continue to watch the waves for a while on the rocks. As we did this we saw a number of people who weren't so lucky. It was funny until you saw a person with a very expensive camera stop to check it didn't get wet, then you began to feel bad. But they clearly didn't time it well. When we left, the rain started to fall harder, the sky was cloudier, and the tide was higher. Of course, this doesn't last long, as the clouds move so fast here.
After this we walked past our apartment and to the main office of the hotel, of the family that owns our place. We talked to the young guy at the front about his opinions of things to do, and found out we don't have wifi, but we can come to the hotel and use it whenever we want. That's how you can see yesterday's post, and hopefully today and the following days. Otherwise, we were using Luke's data SIM card just so our parents knew we weren't dead.
Anyways, after we returned and talked to the guy at the hotel, we walked up to the castle, or the fortress as it once was. Greats views from here. We spent some time enjoying the views, then eventually made our way back through the train station and back to Riomaggiore.
When we made it back we showered again, cause screen, sun, and random rain makes you feel a little gross. Then went and got take away and brought it back to our apart, net, where we sat on our balcony, eating, enjoys a glass of wine, and making commentary to the passers by, the young children randomly fighting in the streets, and the old ladies deciding to try and settle the feud.
We have a coffe stove maker thing that we attempted to use after dinner, with the grounds we bought, and after headed up to watch the sunset. Unfortunately there really wasn't anything to see, but we had an enjoyable time watching the waves crash against the cliffs, and listening to our wedding playlist and then some good ole country music! We will definitely be doing this again another night, and hopefully with a better sunset.
Laying on the beach today was another time it just hit me of where we were. Seeing the beautiful three toned sea, laying in the heat of the sun, with great conversation and my best friend, it doesn't get much better. Many times today I was also reminded of our honeymoon, which will always be a special trip, and I loved the flash backs. Sitting on the balcony watching people over a glass of wine, sitting out in the sun, and walking random roads and paths. Slightly different sceneries, but all beautiful. Excited for more days of this to come!
And so the adventure continues...
It was actually small hail that fell so fast and heavy that it piled up like snow. Twice in the past week. Made for a bit of a soggy stampede.
ReplyDeleteLindsay and Luke. Shawn and I ran into Rick Steve's in the Cinque Terre a few years ago in Monterosso, he was with his Italian contact from his TV show. We spoke with him for ten minutes or so. So keep your eyes open, you never know who you will run into! I am surprised you haven't run into any celebrities yet, where else would they hide out during during hot summer! Beautiful images and memories!! Shawn and Steve
