A Journey & A Day

It was a painless journey to Naples today. Only a 2 hour train ride. Our B&B is fairly close which was also a plus as we are getting back into some type of humidity. You could feel it in the air, and our sweaty backs. We got to our B&B and the guy gave us a map with a great recommendation of a plan to see certain areas of Naples and a good walking route.

Also his rooms are by colours, and guess which one we got. The PURPLE room!! Haha it's tacky in a super awesome sort of way. The light switch plates are all bedazzled, 2 different shades of purple paint. Inside of the door is purple, sheets are purple roses, drapes are purple, even towels. You get the idea. It is funny, but a cute room.

I don't completely remember the way that he put it but something along t he lines of Naples isn't a city with things to see, but a place to experience. This has so far been true as we journeyed out for our afternoon and evening. Small streets lined with stores both souvenir and normal stores. More normal that they don't feel so tacky more authentic and welcoming somehow.

We decided that we would head to the national archeological museum.it had the potential to be a really neat place. I like things like that but was expecting something very different, it was more than okay that it was different. What wasn't okay was that most of the place was closed down. Especially all the things that I wanted to see. The coins, and the Egyptians were the big things.

We still enjoyed it, just it a much different way. I have a love for weird history things and one of that is Pompeii. We will be going there Sunday so you will be seeing much of it, but it was a city that got completely wiped out by Mount Vesuvius a long time ago.  They are still finding new things about it.the whole city came to a stand still and frozen in time. It is very cool and unique. Netflix used to have a great documentary on it if anyone is interested.

But the museum. Much wasn't in English, and in some cases that made it more fun. Not sure why or what the meaning is behind these statues. But they are on segways. The one guy is also wearing a gas mask and holding a gun. He looks very scary.

There were many more statues that we saw. They were neat because some were made out of marble or were wearing cloths that were made out of marble as well. Changes the way that they look and how you look at them in some weird way. Very neat though. There were a ton of them.

We went into an area called the secret room. Here were many things that were apparently from Pompeii. Then as we were reading a little speal it said that the male tally wacker was thought of very, very highly in Pompeii back in the way back when. That was made abundantly clear as we walked through the secret room. Take a moment to look at the tally wackers, dingle berries, sculpture, mosaic, and stone. If you so chose. Yes. That is a man and a goat, and it was said that they looked at each other like they both knew what was going to happen.

Alright moving past that, we move on to some pretty incredible mosaic work. Some of the pieces are so incredibly small it's amazing that anything was ever finished.  They have some that aren't complete due to the fact that they are ancient. But they are all actually ancient pieces, from sometime ago. The detail and the patience that people would have put into them are incredible. Especially in the many different sizes. From paper size to the size of a wall, the pieces are small, and have to be carefully put into place.

We also came across a few paintings that were neat, and some gold leafed crowns.

We enjoyed the afternoon even though it was different then we expected. We walked around a little longer before sitting and finding a place for food. I remind you that Naples big claim to fame is that they invented the pizza. Of course we had to have pizza here. After eating we discussed and decided that they do have great pizza. Compared to the rest of Italy and what we have been eating over the last few weeks, we have decided that they are at the top. Gluten free for sure was delicious. Yummy, and doughy. Made exactly like I was told a normal pizza should be in Naples. The crust a little thicker with a little crunch going into a thin inside. It was truly a delight.

We certainly are in southern Italy though. You are on their time, not your own. This goes for many things but at the moment I am specifically referring to the restaurant and the service. But hey the food was great, after dinner we made our way back and are hunkering down for the night to have purple dreams, in our purple room, under the purple sheets, resting our heads on our purple pillows, looking at the purple black back of our eyelids. Bed is a little springy but not horrible, pillows are a lumpy, but not stiff and not cardboard so we will take it. Not to mention the sheets are comfy cozy, they feel like a super soft shall you would wear around your shoulders.

And so the adventure continues...
