San Sebastián was the destination of the day. Trekking our way to the train station this morning and getting our tickets, while we waited we enjoyed breakfast before figuring out which platform we had to be on. We had to switch trains and figuring that out was also rather fun as we literally had to run up and down stairs to get on the train. Fun times! But we made it, and that is the important part. Especially as our next trains time we thought we had to wait 2 hours but we ended up catching the earlier one. On the second train the guy came around to punch our tickets and it reminded me of the polar express. Haha it was pretty great
Now, I need to back track a little as there is an important piece to our puzzle that what we are finding to come rather in handy. LUCKY EURO! When we arrived at our first stop in Dublin, the prison, as we got out Luke found a euro in the car on his side. We automatically dubbed it the lucky euro. Little did we know that since then it really has been our lucky euro. When we had got to the prison, we were given 2 free tickets in, well I drove so it just was lucky that whole time, free entry into O'Briens tower at the Cliffs of Moher, the weather is a huge one and there have been a few other times that we can't remember at the moment but they exist, but today it got us not only on an earlier train but to literally just make it on. YAHOO!
We made it to our Hostel in San Sebastián to drop the bags off. Honestly if every hostel were like this I would be content. Although, instead of having one bed and one pillow like the night previously, we have 2 single beds and 2 pillows. Haha at least we can push them together. Thus we start bathroom sharing. We have a mirror and sink in our room. Otherwise we have bathroom stalls and showers down the hall. But what is awesome is that they have a common room that has free fruit for us as well as tables and amenities that we can use. This is a great place. As we were exploring me met a guy from Mexico that now lives here and works at the hostel. We chatted with him for a while which was sweet. He was making his lunch but said that after he would tell us some places to go. But for us, we decided that we just wanted to meander and start off the exploring and not wait for him to finish. We will catch up with him later.
We took to the streets and started to explore. We walked a large part of the coast of San Sebastián and stopped to have some food along the way. My Spanish will hopefully get us by but I definitely have my doubts as they speak fast and I am super rusty on the little that I knew once. We shall see. Food here as been a little more challenging, but we found a dinner place that comes highly recommended by the inter web so hope to have it work in our favour. We pretty much walked past it already earlier today so at least we know where we are going.
While we were walking along the coast, the beach portion some guy had done some art work in the sand. Looks pretty sweet. He had a large towel laid out that people were throwing coins onto, and the guy was no where to be found. Hopefully he got to in before the tide came in cause by the time we wrapped back around on our journey, the artwork was gone.
They have the funniest looking trees. As Luke put it earlier today, "they look like they have got struck by lightning, sometimes multiple times. They also look like they are dead, but alive somehow." Hahaha and it's too true.
We also learned that the cider here in Spain is special somehow, and also quite expensive. You get a very small quantity and it has a beer ish after taste. It is quite bizarre. Think sangria will be the drink of choice for the duration of Spain. They have these large square marbles on the coast line that we past as well, they are huge and look perfectly cut but imperfectly placed. Kinda odd how that works but we have no clue anything about them except that. In the distance of the picture above you can't see what looks like the Jesus statue in Rio, they have a similar looking one here.
San Sebastián is a quaint little town with a beautiful beach and a great atmosphere. We have enjoyed walking around and seeing what it has to offer. We will hopefully get to do some more exploring this evening and tomorrow before we leave.
And so the adventure continues...
So Much FUN!
